Route Description

The route utilizes sections of the new Schaapensberg MTB Trails, which will be officially opened by the PPA on 17 April at Ongegund Lodge, which will be the start venue of the trail system. Parts of the route were also used on the last day of this year’s ABSA Cape Epic, as well as last year’s Wines2Whales.

Terrain: A true MTB heaven consisting of a wide variety of farm roads, district road, jeep track, single track (climbing and descending). The route covers the farms of the Schaapenberg, as well as a section of the east slopes of the Hottentots- Holland mountains immediately north of Sir Lowry’s Pass. Riders will be treated to breathtaking views of the mountains, False Bay, Gordons Bay and Strand. The route will pass through the Wedderwill Game reserve, where riders will be treated to the presence of Springbok, Blesbuck, Eland, Black Wildebeest and Zebra. The extreme west section of the route goes over a hill that has been declared a conservancy due the fynbos species that exist only there.

Water Points: Water points with Powerade, Wilde Juice and eats at 16 km (Wedderwill Winery) and 31km (Waterkloof Lapa) hosted by Re/Max Helderberg.
